Littmann Cardiology IV Stethoscope

Sound quality is the whole point of a stethoscope, and this is where the Cardiology IV earns its reputation. Switching between the adult and pediatric sides is a single rotation, and both diaphragms pick up low-frequency sounds — S3, S4, early murmurs — more clearly than anything else we tested in this price range.

The tubing is a two-tube design rather than a single lumen, which cuts down on the rubbing noise you get when a sleeve brushes the tube. After a full shift, that matters more than it sounds like it would.

Where it falls short: at this price, losing it stings more than losing a basic model, and the dual-lumen tubing is slightly stiffer in cold hallways. If you’re a student or early in training and not yet sure what you need, start with something cheaper. If you’re doing serious auscultation every day, this is worth the jump.
